Interestingly, this begs the question, what else can be custom _set? There are at least 2 additional variables which can be used with _set

- currencyCode (recently acknowledged by GA in their change log https://developers.google.com/analytics/devguides/collection/gajs/changelog)

- campaignParams

There are several others if you go digging through the ga.js but these seem most obvious as to their uses.

Great discovery Ahmed!

Great article. I my case, i'm dealing with some level of inconsistency in our urls when switching between different stages in the funnel. F.e. actual stage = 3; when you return to stage 2, the url indicates stage 4 :-( quite annoying and unfortunatly, it's not that easy to resolve... nevertheless, this method helps me to solve the issue. However, i can't find the _set method in Google's tracker documentation and searching the web was unsuccesfull. Can you provide more information on this method or paste a link to more information ?

Thanks in advance

Thanks Shreyas for reading!

I am not sure how you are going to do your calculation to measure every page performance at the end, but regardless just be aware of the 500 hits collection limit per session. Make sure you are only firing the timing hit as needed. Good luck in your analysis and let us know how it goes :)

This is brilliant Allaedin. A very useful metric I must say for optimizing your conversion funnel's performance.

But I have a question here - I will have to put the timestamp code on just 2 pages, the entry and exit. That, according to me, is not a very actionable metric.

Instead, what I would like to do is put my timestamp code on every page so that I see which page is consuming a lot of time for converting. This way I will be able to zero down on pages that are taking a lot of time, and try to bring them down to an average value.

Thoughts?

Thank you Paul! I wish we have the ability today to send more data with the e-commerce hit such as the Conversion Duration. The good news is, with the new Custom Dimensions and Metrics that Google is introducing with the new Universal Analytics, we can associate a custom metric with a hit. Stay tuned for these amazing features :)

Hi Allaedin,

Very informational. Thanks for posting.

I'm a little late to the conversation, but as Salesforce is retiring their adwords integration on 5/1/13, I thought I'd chime in.

My company has built a <a href="http://www.bizible.com/salesforce-for-google-adwords/" rel="nofollow">replacement for Salesforce for Google Adwords</a>. It provides all of the features of the original app, with a bunch of improvements in reliability and reporting.

I would be happy to show you around, if you like.

This was a brilliant marketing campaign by Linkedin to get more Linkedin exposure. I received the top 1% and so did my partner. With that 1% stat my very infrequent sharing or wall posts, I came to the conclusion that a very small number of Linkedin members actually use the site on a weekly basis. It actually made me think that Linkedin was pulling out a desperation card. It wasn't authentic at all.

I wanted to explore my curiosity with the 'share' button to see how Linkedin was going to use this to their advantage. What happened was that my name written on the letter was removed and a generic 'member' was the post. Wow, the thanks only could go so far in the data transfer I guess. I did not share this post. It was brilliant for Linkedin to find a way to get themselves promoted on their own wall. they have some crafty marketers on staff!

Hi All

As you may have heard, Salesforce for Google Adwords is no longer available for anyone as of May 2013. Salesforce has pointed people towards solutions like Marketo and Eloqua as a replacement, but those cost thousands of dollars a month.

Frustrated by this, we wrote our own replacement app, and figured other people might benefit so we've produced it as a native Salesforce app. It replaces all the functionality of the original SGFA, and has a few more features. For a demo or more info, find us at daddyanalytics.com

Allaedin Ezzedin,

Keep up the great work :-) We are all part of the 3.4%

As for activity, LinkedIn only provides information to patrons whom have profiles, that does not account for all the search results of non LinkedIn members. That's my hunch.

Namaste.

Wow, I feel so special and excited to be in the 1% club with you too. Woohoo!

All my social media e-mail notifications go into a separate folder that I purge about once a month. So I hadn't looked at it. How excited I am to know that I'm in the top 1%.

Um, yah, so now what? Can I stick it the wall? Does anyone care?

You're right - it doesn't mean diddly, just like page views.

Thanks for the great post. :)

I also got the same and was left a bit puzzled - my brain kicked in "analysis" mode trying to understand how the heck I could be in the top 1%. Then it shifted toward "oh! clever trick!"

But wait a minute... if everyone got a 1% or 5% congratulations, then it means... oh well! :)
